The involvement of Faculty in international experiences has been a major thrust of the Center for International Development Programs since its inception. To this end, the Center has facilitated travel and related faculty development activities designed to enhance global exposure and competence. As the new world order continues to reconfigure the international landscape, Southern University System must respond to new realities of American economic competitiveness and national security with an expanded global focus. There are indeed many more players at the table, where the imperatives of technology, environment, health and demography have crossed national borders. Thus, new partnerships must be forged—functional alliances that require globally aware citizenry.

Sincerely,
Walter T. Wiles, Ph. D
Director,
Center for International Development Programs
