Four
galleries are also dedicated to African American art. Each gallery has a
theme based on the artists' work it contains. The Master's Gallery contains
the work of master artists such as : Phoebe Beasley, John Biggers, and Elizabeth
Catlett. Two galleries are devoted to Louisiana artists and one gallery
is reserved for the display of special exhibits and the work of Southern
University faculty and staff. The President Leon R. Tarver II, The Chancellor

The front and rear foyers
and the stage display both African and African American art. The stage contains
a powerful exhibit of art related to the slave era, stone sculptures from
South Africa, as well as a bronze Benin sculpture of Queen Iye Aruanran.
Two large murals, kuba cloth designs on the walls, eclectic displays of
greenery and artifacts above each gallery make visiting SUMA a unique experience.
