The Manager is responsible for ensuring that the daily public operations of SUMA are conducted in a professional and welcoming manner that provides an environment for the museum's guests that is conducive to learning. The Manager is also responsible for the scheduling of regular and group tours, gift shop sales, the scheduling of docents, host/hostesses, and supervising receptionists.

The Curator provides professional care for objects in the collection, plans and conducts research and participates in planning and implementation of special projects. The Curator works with the Administrator to acquire specimens for the collection through purchase, gifts, loans or transfer from other institutions. She works with other staff members to plan and organize educational, public service, special exhibit and other projects. As Education Specialist, she also plans, develops and administers the educational program of SUMA.

The Museum Registrar manages the records related to the museum's history, and African and African American art collections. The Registrar conducts and oversees inventory control, including artifacts in storage, on exhibit, and on incoming or outgoing loan. She manages the museum's Embark collections database, with the support of the technical staff. She works closely with the Director and other staff to advise and assist in public programs and the interpretation of SUMA's collection to its audience.
