Professor sets performance of play based on life of mysterious guitarist
Ava Brewster Turner, associate professor, SU Department of Visual and Performing Arts, has announced performance dates for her new fall presentation of the play, “Trick the Devil.”
Performances will be held August 29-31 at 7 p.m. and the matinee on September 7 at 2 p.m. at Upstage Theatre, 1713 Wooddale Boulevard.
“Trick the Devil” is a two-act drama based on the legend of blues guitarist Robert Johnson.
According to legend, Johnson met the devil at a crossroad and sold his soul for the sake of his music. It was rumored that as a result of the pact, he became a blues guitar master in an amazingly short time. The legend and his reputation grew after his death in 1938.
Turner is founder-director of Upstate Theatre Company, Incorpated.
