Duo receives best paper honors at computing technologies meeting

Southern University, Baton Rouge professors Humberto Muñoz and Nigel Gwee, received best session papers during the Computing Technologies session at the 6th International Conference on Computing, Communications and Control Technologies, held at Orlando, Florida from June 29 to July 2, 2008.
Their paper examined traditional ways of modeling real-world events and showed better a better method using simple and well-known techniques (the Least Absolute Value and Interval Arithmetic methods).
The submission acceptance rate of this conference was 20 percent with only two out of every 10 papers submitted accepted for presentation and publication. Of the total of 140 worldwide papers included, 15 from the United States were published. Muñoz and Gwee had the only submission from Louisiana.
Muñoz teaches in the Mathematics Department of the College of Sciences and Gwee teaches at the Computer Science Department, also of the College of Sciences.
