New appointments added to Southern University Board of Supervisors
New Board Member

Attorney Jason Decuir swears in Patrick Bell as a member of the Board of Supervisors during a special meeting of the SU Board of Supervisors in July.

Two new members of the SU System Board of Supervisors recently appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal -- Patrick Bell of Thibodaux and Patrick Magee of Lafayette – were sworn in during a special meeting in late July.

Bell is the director of government relations for Capital One and is also a member of the Louisiana Bankers Association and the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce. Bell previously served on the Board of Directors for the Lafourche Community Housing Development Organization, the United Way for Southeast Louisiana, and the South Louisiana Economic Council at Nicholls State University.

He also previously served on the Southern University Board of Supervisors from 1995 to 2000. Bell will represent one of the two positions representing the 3rd Congressional District.

Magee is currently an assistant district attorney for the 15th Judicial District and is a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana. Magee also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Acadiana Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. Magee will fill one of the two positions representing the 7th Congressional District.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Russell Jones, SU Law Center swears in Patrick Magee as a member of the SU Board of Supervisors.

The Southern University Board of Supervisors serves to provide leadership and support to the Southern University System by assisting campus administrators in decision-making, data processing, and capital construction projects. The mission of the Southern University System is to provide educational services of the highest quality with the broadest possible access in a complete range of academic, professional and vocational postsecondary programs.

The board is composed of sixteen gubernatorial appointments, which are subject to senate confirmation. There must be two members from each congressional district, one member from the state at-large and one member must represent the student body of Southern University System Campuses. The members serve overlapping terms of six years, following initial terms fixed by law.
