the cover: Throughout history, college students
have been the trendsetters in fashion, in culture, in
thought and ideas. They know what’s “hot” and they know
what’s not. But, what’s in style may not be what’s appropriate
for attending classes on some college and university
campuses. Midriff-revealing tops and underwear-baring
oversized jeans are commonplace and everyday attire for the typical
college student. A trip around any campus also reveals
that sweatpants, hoodies, and pajama bottoms are wardrobe staples as well. Conservative business-like appearance
is usually the exception and not the rule on many campuses,
but many University administrators are demanding more by developing standards for dress and appearance.

the cover: Nursing shortages are widespread
across the United States. While enrollment at nursing colleges has increased signifi
cantly over the past few years, many colleges are facing
diffi culties in keeping up with demand. In Louisiana,
through the Higher Education Loan Program for Nurses
(HELP Nurses) administered by the Louisiana Education Loan Authority (Lela), nursing students
can take advantage of interest-free education loans
if they remain and work full-time in Louisiana after
graduation. Southern University, Baton Rouge offers
a bachelor’s degree program to prepare students to become
registered nurses and the nursing program at the Shreveport
campus (SUSLA) prepares individuals to become registered
nurses at the associate degree level.
